British geophysicist born in Norwick, England, on September 21, 1907, and educated at Clare College, Cambridge University. Bullard spent most of his career at the Department of Geodesy and Geophysics at Madingley Rise in Cambridge, named Bullard Laboratories in his honor, and as director of the National Physical Laboratory. Marine geology professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography from 1955 until his death. He served on several committees of the National Academy of Sciences relating to environmental issues during the 1970's.
